Pantone Colour of the Year: 2017 Edition

Since 2000, we have seen Pantone choose a colour that suitably envisions the world’s current climate. In previous years, the selected colour has noticeably influenced trends across the board in various industries including; fashion, food, travel, interior design and even architecture. (Psst… it’s already a massive trend on the catwalk)

The Pantone Colour Institute recently revealed their colour of the year, which is… (drumroll please) “Greenery” or more specifically, Pantone 15-0343.

Greenery signifies new beginnings: a fresh year & a fresh start; healthy resolutions and growing veggie trends. Not to mention the memories we all have of that “oh so crisp” green grass in summer.

Pantone describe greenery as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors.”

Here at PG, we think this vivid hue is fantastic for events! It perfectly resonates with a multitude of event trends; plants are definitely THE event decor this year, especially with the “Outside-in” craze which sees indoor spaces being converted into outdoor wonderlands, like a wintery forest or decking whole floor-scapes with REAL grass. (Yes, that’s a thing!)

Good pick Pantone! If nothing else, it’s a really optimistic pick me up from what was a tempest of a year in 2016! Here are our suggestions for how to use “Greenery” in your 2017 events:

#TableGoals

Pantone calls Greenery “Nature’s neutral”, whilst you could go all out and have all green-everything, why not start small and get using plants and foliage on your table spread! We think tiny succulents and even hanging plants are a great addition to any event. (btw. Living walls are definitely still in – don’t let anyone tell you different.) And who says you can’t top your table or bar with real life grass for a really bold statement?

A Green Staircase?

We’re taking this “Outside-in” trend and running with it… all the way up the stairs. Why not incorporate fresh plants and greenery to the staircase at your event. You can create a gorgeous atmosphere and make that boring staircase go from drab, to fab.

"Eat your Greens!"

No, this isn’t the voice of reason reminding you of your New Years resolution that lasted all of 7 days, green foods have become the most “instagram-worthy” foods on the internet (“look everyone, I’m eating avocado!”). Keep your event on trend with green foods all the way. Think kale, spinach, peas, apples and even pears.

#PGTopTip: Green Apple martini’s and Key Lime Pie are always our winners at events!

Lush Décor

Forget about Bunting and Balloons and think; house plants and topiary. The possibilities are limitless when it comes to what you can do with leafy greens, you can be as subtle or as boisterous as you like.
